Today is Thursday and I have had a productive, albeit emotional, week so far.\u00a0 I had a valuable, and humbling, meeting with my supervisor on Tuesday.\u00a0 She had a lot of questions about my \u201celegant solution\u201d for grappling with participant response obstacles.\u00a0 The conversation highlighted a few things to me.\u00a0 First, I was too quick to adopt this \u201celegant solution\u201d without thoroughly thinking it through.\u00a0 Second, I still don\u2019t know the methodology used in my field of study to the degree that I should. \u00a0\u00a0Third, I am pushing myself to adhere to overly aggressive time-lines instead\u00a0of recognizing that the doctorate is a \u201cmarathon not a sprint\u201d!<\/p>\n
Sigh…\u00a0 So I have let go of my plan to write 30 pages by the end of this week.\u00a0 Instead, I have spent a good deal of time thinking about my research question, revising my colloquium deck and reading.\u00a0 Although I had hoped to not do work this week, I have had to spend a few hours each day checking email and addressing some operational challenges.\u00a0 This was prudent because I am only in the office next Monday and then in the\u00a0US for a conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I have also decided to maintain my commitment to have another \u201cfree day\u201d because between research and work this week, I am feeling pretty zonked.\u00a0 I will take tomorrow off and then return to the library on Saturday.\u00a0 Tomorrow I am looking\u00a0forward to sleeping in and perhaps going to an art gallery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
