I have had three full days focused on\u00a0my quantitative assignment, and finally have a complete rough draft.\u00a0 I am amazed by how much time it has taken!\u00a0 I thought taking two vacation days from work would have put me ahead of schedule but this is not the case.\u00a0 So far I have devoted about 18 hours to this paper and\u00a0anticipate an additional 15 hours to do more analysis, rewriting and cleaning up the look and feel.\u00a0\u00a0 In general, I\u00a0find that my estimates are too optimistic and papers typically take double the length of time!\u00a0 Despite my poor estimating skills, I remain on track because I typically give myself deadlines that are a week or two in advance of the REAL l deadline.\u00a0 I\u00a0need to keep this in mind for my upcoming assignments because they are much larger in terms of scope and length.<\/p>\n
My initial meeting with the tutor was productive.\u00a0 We spent about 2 hours together and he was able to answer many of my questions.\u00a0 There were a few concepts that were rusty for him so he plans to consult some textbooks and we will tackle them at our next meeting.\u00a0 I am also going to generate a list of additional questions \u00a0based on this draft paper to discuss.\u00a0 I suspect that this will be sufficient to complete the assignment.\u00a0\u00a0I plan to schedule one more session to address some outstanding concepts that\u00a0 reamain\u00a0\u201cfuzzy\u201d for me.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0I will\u00a0need\u00a0additional assistance with my Pilot Study but can likely leverage my mentor for this.\u00a0 Also, I will definitely need to take some statistics courses and read more text books, but I will tackle this\u00a0in 2011 .\u00a0 I am cognizant of how much I am learning but also of how much there is to know!!\u00a0 In some ways it feels like a \u201cwash\u201d, the amount of new concepts and skills that I \u201cacquire\u201d are equal to the heightened awareness of what I still need to learn.\u00a0 Oh well, it is progress nonetheless!<\/p>\n
Life has been very busy beyond statistics which has provided good balance.\u00a0 I have been playing\u00a0indoor tennis which has been fun and\u00a0also\u00a0attending some Christmas parties.\u00a0 Maintaining social commitments is healthy for me and has forced me to be exceedingly productive with my time so that I can enjoy time with others without guilt.\u00a0 I am going to sign off for now and have a nap before heading to another Christmas party.\u00a0 Thank goodness that tomorrow is a vacation day.\u00a0 I can sleep in and then do some more work on this assignment, but thankfully at a more leisurely pace!\u00a0 My goal for next Sunday is to have this assignment\u00a0 at a \u201c90% Complete\u201d status.\u00a0 Let\u2019s hope that this is a reasonable estimate!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
